Huh? What is? Well, according to Joey Comeau: being in love. And, jaundiced as I may be, I’d have to agree. It is. Totally. Punk rock. Rock on…
So, who you ask, is Joey?
He’s a totally punk rock Canadian writer who was introduced to me by Daz (not to be confused with the ‘x’) when he lent me ’Lockpick Pornography‘ and A Softer World: Truth & Beauty Bombs (co-created with quirky photographer, Emily Horne).
I fell hard for the big-eyed kitten on the cover and have been a faithful follower of the bewitchingly beautiful, fabulously irreverent (don’t ya just luuuuurve that word & all it stands for?) and bitingly ironic site, ‘a softer world‘ ever since (I like them so much they’re on my blogroll – there is no greater love). Described (and awarded) as a webcomic, is more than like neo-romantic indie photo-literary satire (yeah and I’m sure that genre doesn’t exist – so I’ll coin it). See for yourself, one of my (many) favourties:
"you know, at bedtime or whatever."
They have all sorts of gems back in their time vault archives (they started this in 2003), a magical treasure chest of disturbing, funny, dreamy, whimsical, dark, romantic, freaky but always creatively clever trilogies – any which way you cut it. ‘Installments’ come out tri-weekly – on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to help you make it through the 9-5 til weekends roll in.
Recently there’s been a bitter breakup theme which has me wondering: are Joey and Emily watching my internal eternal sunshine for a spotless mind?! Whichever way you look at it: a softer world is what you need. AND they have an awesome online store: I’d be thrilled a set of buttons and an apolitical pyromaniac shirt because, well… I want a badge that says ‘kittentits‘ and I like to (thank you Uglee) burn sh*t. But that’s just me…

“to” burn shit, surely? though must agree that a softer world has added grace and humour to an otherwise bleak year so far…
thank you Mr Master Gammarian. to burn shit, or not TO burn…this ees the kwestion. and yes, thank gods for freaky people with creative bents that make you laugh. or cry (or both…)
Oh my, it’s now so tempting to say you mean Master “Grammarian”? Though truth is, I get beaten by the grammar/spelling stick so much, I just like to share the misery. And the point is it’s a great post, and a great site. Not so much the grammar. That’s just kakpraat.
fcuk. I can’t spel…
PS – punk rock? or middle of the road corporate punk? just asking…
I won’t say you asked for it…
